Asthma

The man with Asthma

May 28th,
Since I have allergies like animal hair, dust, and having too much exercise can trigger an Asthma attack. Right now, my friend forgot of my allergies and brought his dog over for a little. The dog hair made me start to sneeze I had Asthma attack. My chest is tightening and it is hard to breathe. I used my inhaler which helped out a bit. I got it from the doctor just a few days ago and he said that I need to refill in a month or so. I could still breathe with just a little trouble but it hurt with my chest tightening. I think I’m going to wait a while and let it go on its own.

After Jim wrote his journal entry, He started to lie down and sleep, after a few hours it went away and he went back onto his normal schedule.

June 1st,
Today I have found out that my Asthma is going to get worse and I have observed that it gets worse at night.  It’s only a little hard to breath, but I think that it might get worse. I think I might go see… Jim’s pencil broke against the table.

“Man.” Jim said as he shut his journal and left his pencil on top of it. He checked the time on his alarm clock. The time showed eleven, but he knew it was at least thirty minutes off. He went and lay on his bed as he turned on the TV and watched the news. Forty minutes past by and he still wasn’t tired.  He laid there watching TV, waiting for his eyes to fall. Soon, his eye lids felt heavy so he grabbed the remote and pressed the power button to shut off the TV. He fell asleep almost instantly. The sun comes up and shines directly into his window, right into his eyes which woke him up pretty fast. He looked at the time and it was around six AM. After he pulled himself out of bed, he got dressed for work. Since he still had two hours before he had to work, he called the doctor’s office for an appointment. Once he set up an appointment for ten, he sat down on his bed with his sheet of paper.
Jim writes down the time and saves there number into his phone. He looks at his alarm clock. It showed eight AM. Since it was thirty minutes off, he had enough time to get to work. He grabbed his keys from the counter and went to go start his car. He opened the door and locked it on his way out. During work, he started to cough, but it wasn’t terrible bad. His airways started to tighten up, but he didn’t know what was happening. It was harder for him to breathe so he went and got some water. Work was done and his airways felt better. He turned on the news and lay down, waiting for something to come up that was decent enough to watch. The phone rang and Jim decided to get it.
“Hello?” Jim said as he looked at the caller id.
“Hello sir, this is the hospital calling you, don’t forget our appointment tomorrow at ten o’clock.
“Oh yea, thank you for reminding me.” He said.
“Anytime sir, have a nice night.” She hung up the phone again before Jim could say anything. Jim put the phone away and looked at the TV. He watched it for ten minutes then shut it off and headed to bed. He woke up at around eight o’clock and he almost fell back to sleep but he decided he was already up and his appointment starts at ten, there would be no point. He got up and got ready to go, it was around nine thirty so he started to go to the hospital. When he got there, he had some time to waste before the doctor would see him so he opened a magazine and began reading. The title read Asthma so he started to read it. He learned a lot of new things like how his airways block up and that the coughing can become worse which he didn’t want that to happen.
“Jim Peters. Is he here?” The lady behind the counter said.
“Right here” Jim said as he put the book back on the small table and walked toward the door. A man came out with a big grin on his face and looked at Jim.
“You must be Jim, follow me and we will get started.” The man said as he began to walk down the long hallway. Jim followed him all the way to his small room. Inside the room it had a couple of cabinets, a chair to lie on, and some tools.
“You can have a seat.” The doctor said as he walked to cabinet and started pulling stuff out.
“I’m just here to check my Asthma; I think it might be getting worse.” Jim said as he followed the doctor instructions and sat down. As the day went on, a lot of things happened.
“So, your Asthma is getting worse and it may keep getting worse. I’m going to give you some pills and I’ll explain how to use them.” The doctor grabs some pills from his cabinet. “This is, Azmacort; this will prevent you from wheezing and a shortness of breath and will prevent inflammation.” The doctor grabs another case of pills. “This is called Serevent, this will help open your airways so take one of these a day. This is only for severe purposes and it should not be used alone. The last one that I am going to be giving you, you should only use during an Asthma attack.” The doctor grabs one more set of pills and brings them down. “This is Proventil, should prevent a treat wheezing, difficulty breathing and tightness in the chest. You should only use this during a light Asthma attack.”
“Thank you doctor, is there any way to get rid of Asthma for good?” Jim said as he grabbed the medicine and stood up.
“It can sometimes go away on its own, if you have allergies then you should stay away from whatever causes you to.”
“Ok, thanks for everything, have a nice night.” Jim said as he walked out of the room, down the hall. He took out his doctor’s appointment. He left and went back home. He put the pills in his bathroom and went outside for a stroll. He began to cough and wheeze more and more as he walked farther and farther. He didn’t know why this was happening because he couldn’t find anything he was allergic to around him. He got back home and he knew his Asthma had already gotten worse. When he got home, he looked as his journal again, nothing in it but the first thing he wrote so he decided to write in it again.
June 3rd,
Today I finally got to the doctor, he said my Asthma was going to get worse over the day so I am going to record it every day. I switched to a pen because they don’t break… but this is not what I should be writing about. It’s harder to breathe, but that isn’t new, the pills that I have to take are horrible and they taste horrible, but as long as it helps me, I think that it will be good. I have thirty pills in each and twenty five in the Proventil.

The day went on as normal, just with a few more coughs and wheezes. Jim started to feel worse and worse. He felt it hard to breath and he could feel his airways expanding. He went and grabbed some water and took his pill which made it feel better over a little time. His face turned bluish and he began to breathe really fast. His pulse became a lot more rapid and he also began to sweat a lot more. Jim just thought it was due to the pill so he turned on the fan and lay on his bed waiting for it to stop. His airways where still blocked up enough where it was still hard to breathe. He sat there until he couldn’t breathe anymore, he tried to reach for the phone but he only fell off his bed and hit his head against his dashboard and fell unconscious. His Landlord found him the next month after he didn’t pay the bill. Everyone now knew the actual disasters of Asthma.
